eHarmony is designed for adults seeking a committed relationship. Registration is open to women, men and nonbinary people seeking women, men or nonbinary people, with additional gender detail available inside the profile. The service uses answers from its Compatibility Quiz to create a Personality Profile and compare members on compatibility dimensions.

Unlike a general search-led site, eHarmony controls much of discovery through partner recommendations and compatibility scores. Basic members receive unlimited recommendations, can send and receive Likes, browse anonymously and see recent visitors. Premium is needed to see every match photo clearly, exchange unlimited messages, search by distance and access the full Personality Profile.

1. Registration and Compatibility Quiz

Every account starts with the Compatibility Quiz. It asks about personality, relationship preferences, values and habitual responses, then uses those answers to build the member’s Personality Profile. The process takes longer than signing up to a swipe app, but it provides the data used in recommendations and scores.

2. Personality Profile

The Personality Profile explains the member’s own relationship characteristics rather than merely listing likes and dislikes. Premium includes the bespoke full report. This is one of eHarmony’s most useful differentiators because it gives context to why particular matches are recommended.

3. Matches and compatibility scores

Basic members receive unlimited partner recommendations. Each condensed recommendation includes the person’s first name, town or city, short profile information and a compatibility score. Photos are generally blurred for Basic users, although eHarmony can reveal a primary image in selected cases. Premium displays all match photos.

4. Likes, Icebreakers and messages

Basic membership can send and receive unlimited Likes and use predefined communication such as guided Icebreakers. It does not provide ordinary unlimited conversation. Premium opens unrestricted messaging with every member, so the paid plan is necessary for moving beyond initial signals of interest.

5. Search and distance

eHarmony is recommendation-led, but Premium adds enhanced search and distance search. Member Preferences can be adjusted to influence age, location and other partner criteria. The platform still offers less manual browsing freedom than Match.com or Plenty of Fish because compatibility recommendations remain central.

6. Profile visitors and anonymous browsing

Basic members can browse anonymously and see recent visitors. This makes the free tier useful for learning how much attention a profile receives without immediately exposing every visit. Profile visibility can also be switched off when taking a break, although existing contacts and members who favourited the profile may still see it.

7. Video Date

eHarmony supports in-platform video calls between eligible matches. Video provides a useful step between messaging and meeting because members can confirm appearance, conversational style and basic consistency without sharing a phone number or external social account.

8. Apps and desktop use

The service is available through the website and iPhone and Android apps. The larger desktop layout is better for completing the quiz, reading Personality Profile detail and managing a direct subscription. The apps handle daily recommendations, Likes, messages and video contact.

9. Customer care and Trust & Safety

Premium includes dedicated Customer Care. eHarmony also operates an in-house Trust & Safety team seven days a week, combining automated systems with human review. The service can request verification steps and restrict accounts when supplied information cannot be verified, but this does not mean that every visible member has completed identity verification.

10. Main limitation

eHarmony requires a substantial commitment. The shortest Premium term lasts six months and currently costs £239.40, while the lowest monthly equivalent requires 24 months. Basic membership offers meaningful matching and Likes, but blurred photos and restricted conversation prevent it from functioning as a complete free dating service.

eHarmony is best for UK singles who want a committed relationship and prefer explained compatibility recommendations to browsing hundreds of profiles manually. The Compatibility Quiz, Personality Profile and score breakdown give the matching process more structure than most mainstream apps. Basic membership is genuinely useful for receiving recommendations, Likes and visitor information before paying.

The service is less convincing on flexibility. There is no one-month Premium option, and the six-month plan is the most expensive total at £239.40. The current twelve-month plan costs £179.40, making it both cheaper overall and cheaper per month than six months; the twenty-four-month plan costs £238.80 and is aimed at users comfortable with a very long term.

All Premium terms include the same core feature set. The full minimum term is purchased even when a payment schedule is offered, and stopping automatic renewal does not cancel the remaining payments in that term.

The twelve-month option is the best current balance: it costs £60 less than six months while providing twice the membership time. The twenty-four-month plan has the lowest effective monthly price but costs £59.40 more in total than twelve months. Premium automatically extends for the same term and price confirmed at purchase unless termination is submitted before the current term ends.

Premium Light, Plus and Extra differ by term length and price, not by the core features listed above. Basic has no time limit, but Premium is required for unrestricted conversation and full photo access.

eHarmony operates an in-house Trust & Safety team seven days a week and uses automated tools together with human review. Its terms allow the service to require verification and suspend or restrict an account when information is inaccurate or cannot be verified. Members can also report or block suspicious profiles and messages.

This system does not mean every visible account has passed a full identity check. Compatibility scores measure the relationship between questionnaire answers; they do not prove a member’s identity, honesty or relationship status. Treat a request for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, investment access, travel costs or emergency assistance as fraud.

• Keep early messages and the first video call inside eHarmony.
• Compare the person’s answers across profile, messages and video for inconsistencies.
• Never share banking information, identity documents or security codes.
• Block and report pressure to move immediately to WhatsApp or an investment platform.
• Meet in public and keep independent transport for the first date.

eHarmony asks for more effort at the beginning than most dating apps. The Compatibility Quiz cannot be replaced by a quick photo-and-bio registration because its answers drive the Personality Profile and recommendations. After setup, daily use is simpler: review suggested partners, compare compatibility information, send Likes or Icebreakers and move to messages after upgrading.

The Basic tier offers a useful preview because recommendations, Likes, anonymous browsing and recent visitor information are available without payment. Its limits are immediately visible: photos are normally blurred and normal conversation is restricted. Premium removes those barriers rather than changing the underlying matching method.

The experience is strongest for patient users who appreciate guided recommendations and explanations. It is weaker for people who want an open directory, precise manual searching across a large pool or a short paid trial. Desktop is best for the quiz and profile detail; the apps are convenient for daily recommendations, messaging and video calls.

Stop automatic extension

A website Premium membership extends automatically for the same term and price confirmed in the original order unless it is terminated before the current term ends. Use Data & Settings → Manage profile → Amend subscription, or send a written termination request to Customer Care. Termination takes effect at the end of the agreed minimum term; instalments and other payment obligations for that term remain due. The account then returns to Basic.

Apple and Google purchases must be cancelled in the relevant store’s Subscriptions settings. Their store rules control termination and refunds.

14-day cancellation right

A direct website purchase can be cancelled without giving a reason within 14 days of eHarmony’s purchase-confirmation email. Send a clear cancellation statement to support@eharmony.co.uk, use available live chat or write to eHarmony UK Ltd., Customer Care, 3rd Floor, 1 Ashley Road, Altrincham, Cheshire WA14 2DT. Include the registered email address or profile ID and the service password.

eHarmony returns the payment no later than 14 days after receiving the withdrawal request, using the original payment method. If the paid service was used during the cooling-off period, eHarmony can retain a reasonable amount for the portion already supplied.

Hide or delete the profile

To hide a profile, open Data & Settings → Profile Visibility and switch the green slider off. Existing contacts and members who already added the profile to favourites can still see it. A Basic account can be permanently deleted under Data & Settings → Profile Status → “To permanently delete your profile, click here”, followed by password confirmation. A member in the middle of Premium must contact Customer Care to begin deletion. Permanent deletion removes messages and matches and cannot be reversed.

eHarmony is best for relationship-minded users who will complete the compatibility questionnaire and want guided matches. Review the free match suggestions first, then choose the shortest Premium term when several profiles are worth contacting.
