Muddy Matches connects farmers, equestrians, dog owners, walkers and other singles who want countryside life to be a shared part of a relationship. It accepts adults of every age, has no upper age limit and serves the UK and Ireland. The specialist focus makes it particularly useful for people whose working hours, location, animals or outdoor lifestyle are difficult to explain through a general dating filter.

Registration, profile creation, photo uploads, unlimited search, favourites and Winks are free. A subscription is required to send normal messages and to read or reply to messages received. Website plans start at £25.99 for one month and fall to £92.99 for twelve months; the app separately sells seven days of unlimited messaging for £9.99.

1. Registration and eligibility

Members must be at least 18, while the app-store rating is 17+. There is no upper age limit. Registration asks for location, age, gender and who the member wants to meet, followed by profile text, a main photo and countryside interests. The same email and password work on the website and app.

2. Manual profile approval

Profiles do not appear in search immediately. A member of the customer-care team reviews the profile text and main photo before publication. Approval can take up to 72 hours, although completed profiles are often processed sooner. Edits are reviewed again before going live.

3. Countryside interests

The service offers more than 170 rural and outdoor interests. Members can describe farming, horses, dogs, walking, country sports, machinery and other parts of everyday rural life. The app recommends selecting at least six and allows up to 20 interests on the profile.

4. Website search

Free members can run unlimited searches with no daily cap. The website provides advanced search and saved searches, while the app uses a simpler Explore interface. Search is based on the home postcode; the app allows age filtering but does not let members change the mileage radius or temporarily search from another location.

5. Winks and favourites

A free member can send a Wink, see received Winks and add profiles to favourites. These tools show interest without paying. On the app, a right swipe adds a favourite and an accidental left swipe can be reversed from the Ignored list.

6. Messaging

Messaging is a subscriber feature. A subscriber can contact any approved profile without waiting for a mutual match and can read and reply to messages received. App messages use one grey tick for sent and two green ticks for read. Photo attachments are not supported; only approved profile photos can be shown.

7. Profile visits and interest

Subscribers can see who visited their profile and who added them to favourites. These lists help identify active interest beyond Winks. Some visit-list functions are available only on the website and are not displayed in the app.

8. Mobile app limitations

The app supports profile editing, favourites, mutual matches, real-time messaging, blocking and account management. Winks, advanced search, saved searches, the visits lists, success stories and the dating-advice blog remain website-only. Hiding a profile must also be done on the website.

9. Notifications

Email and in-app notifications report new messages and activity. A member can manage notification preferences through the web version. Personal email address, full postcode and date of birth are not displayed publicly; profiles show the first name or screen name, age and general location.

10. Customer care

Customer care operates by email from 9am to 5pm. The team handles profile approval, reports, password issues and Android refund reviews. Muddy Matches is also a founding member of the Online Dating and Discovery Association.

Muddy Matches offers a clear reason to choose it over a general dating app: the entire audience is organised around rural and outdoor life. Unlimited free search, free Winks and manual profile review make the unpaid account useful, while paid members can message directly without a mutual match. The website is more capable than the app, especially for advanced search, saved searches and activity lists.

The main disadvantages are automatic renewal, paid messaging and the app’s restricted location controls. Rural distance also remains a practical issue even within a relevant audience. For farmers, equestrians and country-minded singles, however, its specialist pool is more meaningful than a much larger pool with only a basic “outdoors” tag.

Website plans are charged as one upfront payment. At the end of the term, the plan automatically renews at its monthly rate unless renewal is stopped at least 48 hours before the payment date. The £9.99 app plan is much more expensive over a month than the one-month website plan and is intended only for short access.

Muddy Matches does not offer a free trial because search, favourites and Winks already remain free without a time limit. Payment is specifically required when a member wants a written conversation.

Every profile, biography and main photo is reviewed by a person before it becomes searchable. Muddy Matches can also request a random six-digit code by email or SMS to confirm access to an account. This is useful moderation, but it is not a universal identity or background check and does not prove every personal claim made in a profile.

In the app, Problem with this profile? opens the options to block a member or submit a confidential concern report. A blocked member cannot view, message or favourite the blocker. The service does not allow photo or file attachments in private messages, which reduces unsolicited image sharing.

The app is convenient for Explore, favourites, real-time messaging, blocking and profile edits, but it cannot change search radius or temporary location and does not display Winks, advanced search, saved searches or visits lists. Members who want the full Muddy Matches experience should use the website for discovery and the app for ongoing conversations.

Stop a website renewal

Open My Account → Manage My Subscription and turn off automatic renewal. The instruction becomes available after the subscription has processed, which can take up to 24 hours. Cancellation must be completed at least 48 hours before the renewal date.

Stop an app renewal

The £9.99 seven-day app plan must be cancelled in the Apple App Store or Google Play account used to buy it. Muddy Matches cannot switch off an app-store renewal. Deleting the app or the dating profile does not cancel store billing.

Website refunds

A cancellation made within 14 days receives a full refund when no subscriber-only function has been used. If paid functions have been used, the refund is reduced by £2 for each day from purchase to cancellation. No website refund is available after 14 days.

App refunds

Renewed weekly app subscriptions do not qualify for a refund review. A first or upgraded in-app purchase requested within 14 days can be reviewed only when searching, messaging, matching and favouriting have not been used. Apple handles iPhone refunds; Android requests go to customercare@muddymatches.co.uk.

Delete the account

Permanent deletion is available from My Account on the website or the account-management area in the app. The profile and interactions disappear and the account cannot be reactivated. Most personal data is deleted after six months; first name, surname and mobile number are retained securely for 36 months for legal and safety enquiries.

Our recommendation

The one-month website plan is the best first paid option because it costs £25.99 and includes messaging without the high weekly cost of the app plan. The twelve-month plan offers the lowest monthly rate for members who are committed to a longer rural search.
