MPWH Review: HSV Dating, Free Replies and Privacy

MPWH, short for Meet People With Herpes, has operated since 1999 and is part of SuccessfulMatch. It positions itself as an HSV-only community for dating, friendship and support, with a UK country route as well as other country pages.

This focus can make the context of joining clearer than a general app or broader STI service. It does not make HSV-1 and HSV-2 interchangeable, establish infection location, or verify the health information supplied by another member.

We consider MPWH a relevant option for someone who specifically wants an HSV community and profile-led search. Its paid initiation, current UK price gap and data-processing terms remain material limitations.

Eligibility and creating an account

Members must be at least 20 and meet the age of majority in their jurisdiction. Registration needs an email address, username, password and profile information. New applications enter a waiting list for internal approval; filling in the form does not guarantee immediate membership. The HSV-only audience is a community rule, not clinical screening.

UK searches are supported, but the shared HSV context does not tell you how many people will match your location and preferences. We have not measured local member activity or response rates.

Condition and location preferences

Search includes gender, age, condition, country and region. Distance search has additional choices for paid members. These filters let you narrow a shortlist beyond simply sharing the same general diagnosis.

For a local relationship, travel distance, age and relationship goals remain relevant. A shared HSV context can reduce one uncertainty in an opening conversation, but it does not establish the rest of a person's circumstances or preferences.

Gallery, Flame and shortlisting

Gallery is the preferences-based discovery route. Flame provides a quicker photo-led like-or-pass format. Likes and saved profiles help organise an initial shortlist, while detailed profiles provide context before contact.

These are different tools for finding a person, not proof of matching effectiveness. The service's claims about active members and monthly conversations do not establish a measured reply rate for a UK town or for a particular profile.

Contacting another member

Standard membership includes winks and replies to messages initiated by paid members. Starting a personal message requires paid access, and continued chat requires at least one participant to retain active Premium membership. A first message from a paying member does not keep the conversation free indefinitely if both accounts later become Standard.

This is especially relevant if two free members express interest through winks: a preset wink does not automatically open a full personal chat. Upgrading has a concrete purpose when you want to contact a chosen person yourself.

Profiles and photograph capacity

You can add up to 26 public photographs and 26 private photographs. Public photographs introduce you to the audience; the private album lets you choose when to grant additional access.

The main public picture cannot be moved into the private album in the same way as other public photographs. That makes the initial choice of main image relevant to privacy. Neither a detailed biography nor a large album establishes medical status, relationship intentions or authenticity of every statement.

Private album access

Another member requests access to a private album and waits for approval. An owner can later remove that permission through the access list or the conversation controls.

This is useful for gradually sharing more of yourself. It is not a way to retrieve an image someone has already copied. Keep identifying details out of the image background if that exposure would be a problem.

Voice, video and photograph verification

Voice and video calls are documented through the chat interface, with both participants accepting. They can help move a conversation beyond text without immediately exchanging contact details.

Photo verification compares the account holder with submitted images, with selfie-based methods subject to location and eligibility restrictions. It does not confirm medical information, criminal history, finances or relationship intentions. MPWH does not conduct background checks, so the badge is not a broader investigation of a member.

Community and mobile access

The service includes blogs, health questions and other community content alongside discovery and conversation. These areas can be useful for friendship and shared experience when you are not ready to date. Advice from members should not be substituted for guidance from a sexual health clinician.

MPWH offers website access and links to iPhone and Android downloads. Use its own download links rather than a similarly named store result: different developers' products can have different memberships and billing terms.

The actual contact boundary is more useful than a broad statement that the service is free. Free replies and paid initiation are different benefits, and search, messaging and privacy should be evaluated separately.

We have not established a current official UK GBP tariff and complete purchase term. We do not quote a similarly named app's in-app purchase or an old third-party price as MPWH.com's current subscription.

Paid membership renews automatically. Manage it under Settings, then Subscriptions. Switching renewal off preserves the paid term until expiry; it does not turn a longer package into a cancellable single-month purchase.

The service agreement describes a three-business-day refund request period and further conditions. A refund request, an end to future renewal and closing the profile are separate actions; applicable rights and the purchase channel also matter.

The service agreement and privacy policy cover sensitive information, including health details and precise location, alongside the handling of account and activity information. They describe sharing or processing through related entities and service providers in specified circumstances.

MPWH and PositiveSingles belong to SuccessfulMatch, but that does not prove every profile appears identically on both. It also does not justify saying that all account information is confined to one brand. Read a visibility control as a control over discovery or photos, rather than a replacement for the data policy.

For a practical privacy approach, use a distinct username, share only what you are comfortable disclosing, and keep work or home details out of photographs. You can block or report unwanted contact through the service. The documented web subscription route is Settings, then Subscriptions and the membership management link. My Account separately provides the route to deactivate or delete the profile. For a store-billed purchase, use the billing provider's subscription controls rather than assume a web setting stops that payment.

Deleting the app or ceasing to sign in does not cancel renewal. Keep the cancellation confirmation and the expiry date of your paid term.

A deleted profile is removed from view, but logging in within six months automatically restores the account. Community posts have separate retention rules, and the agreement allows some records to be retained for security, disputes and other specified purposes. Removing a visible profile is not immediate erasure of every record or previously shared copy.

MPWH makes most sense when an HSV-focused community is the primary requirement and you prefer searching profiles yourself. Standard membership has a useful role for replying to paid introductions; paid access has a clearer role for initiating your own conversations.

It is less suited to someone who needs free first messages, a broader STI community or verified local activity data before choosing. An HSV-focused audience does not establish clinical certainty or guarantee a relationship.
