PositiveSingles UK Review: Messaging, Privacy and Community

PositiveSingles combines dating with a community for people living with herpes and other sexually transmitted infections. You can look for a relationship, make friends or take part in discussions without making dating your only reason to join.

Its strongest distinction is that combination of profiles, communication and support. Free members can reply to paid members, while initiating messages and several search or privacy tools require Premium. Health information is self-reported: photo verification does not establish someone's medical status.

PositiveSingles has been operated by SuccessfulMatch since 2001. It includes people living with HSV-1, HSV-2, HIV, HPV and other conditions, as well as people open to connecting with them. It is therefore a broader STI community than the HSV-focused MPWH.

PositiveSingles reports more than 2.8 million members across its community. This is the provider's figure, not a count of current UK members or people within your travel radius. UK searches are available, while introductions still depend on location, preferences and mutual interest.

Our view is that PositiveSingles is relevant when both dating and community participation matter. Its broader audience is less suitable if your priority is an exclusively HSV-focused community or starting personal messages without paying.

Full PositiveSingles Feature Review

Eligibility and registration

The web service agreement requires members to be at least 20 and meet the age of majority in their jurisdiction. Registration asks for an email address, username, password and profile details. New applications enter a waiting list for internal review, so completing the form does not guarantee immediate membership approval.

The service does not require or verify medical records. The condition shown on a profile is consequently a disclosure from the member, not a medical certificate. A broad shared context can make an initial conversation easier, but it does not remove the need to discuss personal circumstances with a partner.

Profile information and photographs

Standard membership includes a profile, up to 26 public photographs and 26 private photographs. Written details and community participation can provide more context about interests and outlook than a single image.

Choose the information you want an audience to see. A username used elsewhere, a recognisable workplace photograph or a detailed routine can connect an account to another part of your life. An STI-focused service still requires deliberate decisions about what you publish.

Gallery and Flame discovery

Gallery supports searching through preferences; Flame is a quicker photo-led like-or-pass route. The two serve different habits. Gallery is more useful when location and other requirements determine whom you can meet, while Flame offers a simpler way to notice a profile and then investigate it.

Basic search includes country and state or region. Additional distance choices and advanced filters require paid access. There is no measured UK local activity figure in our assessment, and the reported total membership does not tell you how many people match a narrow set of preferences.

Winks, messages and free replies

A free member can send winks and reply to a message initiated by a Premium member. A wink is a preset expression of interest, not the start of a free personal conversation between any two accounts.

Premium is needed to start personal messages. Free replies remain available only while at least one participant has an active Premium membership. Standard access can therefore be useful for receiving introductions, but neither an initial paid message nor a past subscription guarantees continued free chat after both memberships become free.

Voice and video contact

The documented conversation tools include voice and video calls. They require the other person to accept and the relevant microphone or camera permission. There are settings for preventing incoming calls.

These options can help a conversation move beyond text without immediately exchanging a telephone number. They also expose whatever is visible or audible around you. Neither a call nor a photo check establishes someone's health status, intentions or wider background.

Private albums and masked photographs

Private-photo access can be requested and granted by the album owner, then revoked. The service also documents a Mask tool for blurring a profile photograph or public album image. The main public photograph cannot be moved into the private album in the same way as other public photos.

Where verification is available for your account, a clear face image can be supplied through a public or private album. Removing all public photographs cancels verification, so a private verification image is not the same as having no public profile photos. Selfie verification is subject to location and eligibility restrictions; private albums cannot prevent an authorised viewer from keeping a copy.

Blogs, questions and community participation

Blogs, member stories and question-and-answer areas make PositiveSingles more than a profile directory. They can be useful for finding a sense of community or hearing different approaches to relationships after a diagnosis.

Member experiences are not medical guidance or representative evidence of how an infection behaves. Keep detailed health decisions with a qualified clinician. A story about a successful relationship also does not establish the platform's overall success rate.

App and website

PositiveSingles offers website access and an app branded PS. Its linked UK iPhone app requires iOS 14 or later. The store's 18+ age rating does not replace the web agreement's membership eligibility requirement. Conversation management, including pinning, has separate mobile and desktop instructions.

Our assessment uses public interfaces and documentation. We have not paid for Premium, counted nearby profiles or measured message responses. The feature descriptions should be understood at that scope.

Public and private photograph capacity is not the same as unrestricted privacy: there are separate visibility settings, album permissions and service-level data rules. Likewise, being able to receive a message does not mean a free member can approach every profile first.

Premium Costs and Renewal

The UK iPhone store lists one-month purchases at £30.99, £32.99 and £34.99; three-month purchases at £64.99 and £69.99; and six-month purchases at £99.99 and £101.99, checked on 13 October 2026. These are several store-listed products, not proof that every option is offered to each account. They are not the website's tariff, for which we have not verified a current GBP price.

Premium renews automatically for the selected term unless stopped. The agreement allows subscription fees to change, so the initial purchase should not be treated as a permanent price lock. Cancelling renewal preserves access until the purchased term ends; Premium time cannot be frozen while taking a break.

The service agreement describes a three-business-day cancellation period for a refund request, alongside its other conditions. This is the provider's published policy, not a blanket statement about all statutory rights or every app-store purchase. Keep the purchase channel and receipt with any request.

Privacy, Verification and Support

Privacy controls include private albums, photograph masking and documented profile-visibility options. They control different things. Hiding a profile affects discovery, sharing an album affects photographs, and the privacy policy governs the operator's handling of information.

The contract and privacy policy describe personal and sensitive information, including health data, as well as processing and sharing in specified circumstances. That is more nuanced than a claim that no information ever leaves the service. PositiveSingles and MPWH share an operator; this alone does not prove identical databases, membership or privacy choices.

Photo verification compares a person with submitted images. It does not verify a diagnosis or criminal history, and the site explicitly does not conduct background checks. Block and report tools are useful controls, not a guarantee about another person's behaviour.

The service advertises 24/7 live support, alongside account-help routes. We have not measured its response or tested the outcome of a report. Billing, private album and account instructions are available in the PositiveSingles help centre.

Cancellation and Account Deletion

For a web subscription, the documented route is Settings, then Subscriptions, followed by the renewal-management link. Profile deactivation or deletion is separately available in Settings, then My Account. These actions should not be conflated.

An Apple-billed subscription is managed through the device's Apple account subscriptions. The relevant billing provider determines the cancellation route for any other purchase. Deleting the application or profile is not a substitute for stopping the charge through that channel.

After account deletion, the profile is removed from view, but logging in within six months automatically restores the account. Community contributions such as success stories have separate retention rules, and the agreement also allows some records to be retained for security, disputes and other specified purposes. Profile removal is therefore not immediate erasure of every record.

Who Should Consider PositiveSingles?

It suits readers who want both a broader STI dating community and spaces for discussion or friendship. A free account has a specific communication use: responding to Premium-initiated messages. Someone who wants to choose and approach their own matches needs the paid route.

The main reasons to compare alternatives are an HSV-only audience, free first messages, concern about sensitive-data handling and the difference between app and website prices. The reported member total cannot resolve those choices for an individual reader.

Common Questions

Is PositiveSingles limited to herpes?

No. It is a wider STI community. HSV-focused membership is the main distinction to examine when comparing it with MPWH.

Do I need to upload medical records?

Medical records are neither required nor verified. A condition label is self-reported.

Can I verify a photograph without publishing it openly?

Where verification is available, a clear face photograph in a private album can be used. However, removing all public photographs cancels verification. This option does not promise a completely photo-free public profile, and selfie verification has location and eligibility restrictions.

Is the member figure a UK active-user count?

No. The 2.8 million-plus figure is the provider's reported membership across the service. It is not a count of active UK members or a measurement of local response rates.

Can a free account start a chat after receiving a wink?

A wink can be returned as a wink. Starting a personal message requires Premium; the free reply exception concerns Premium-initiated messages while at least one person in the conversation retains active Premium.

Can I pause paid time rather than cancel?

The help material does not offer freezing Premium membership. Stopping renewal and continuing to the current expiry are different from preserving unused days for later.
